Our Mission: We will be the base for small-medium sized businesses in our community by providing the most comprehensive and customer-centered services in Payroll, Human Resources, Accounting, and Information Technology.  Our primary focus is to grow our business together with the business owners and the individuals we serve.  We will cultivate a unique experience by promoting a culture in which excellence is expected, professionalism is the norm, and caring for customers is everything that we do.

Our History: Total Solutions, founded in Davenport, Iowa in 2015, manages Professional Employment Organization Services (PEO), Payroll Services, Human Resource Services, Accounting Services, and Information Technology (IT) Services for small to medium sized businesses in the Quad City Area and beyond. Our focus is to meet our client’s need, grow with them, and alleviate those services from their work load. We cultivate a unique experience by promoting a culture in which excellence is expected, professionalism is the norm, and caring for customers is everything that we do.

Our Executive Team

Aaron Tennant – CEO

Aaron Tennant started Total Solutions, Inc. in January 2015. In addition to Aaron’s latest endeavors he has over twenty years of experience in the transportation industry. He is the former CEO of Tennant Truck Lines, Inc (TTL). While with TTL Aaron held virtually every position with the company and ultimately purchased it in 2009.  During his time as the owner, he expanded the operations and services offerings of the company resulting in year after year double digit growth.

 

In August of 2015, Aaron decided to sell TTL so he could work on growing Total Solutions along with his other companies: Simplex Leasing, Inc., a trucking company he acquired in October 2014 with locations in Jamestown ND and the Quad Cities, asset leasing companies (P2 Leasing, Tennant Logistics and Centrux), Tennant Yard Management, a warehousing and shipment consolidation company, and most recently B&B Truck and Trailer Service in Rock Island, IL.

 

Aaron has been very active in the transportation industry having been an active member on several boards and committees to help better serve the industry including: Truckload Carriers Association, American Trucking Association, Machinery Haulers Association, Illinois Trucking Association, Iowa Motor Truck Association, and Trucking Profitability Strategies, University of Georgia.

 

Aaron is also well known in his community for his support of many local charitable organizations. He currently serves on the board of directors for the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce, John Deere Classic, Trinity Health Foundation, Community Foundation of the Great River Bend, and the Putnam Museum. He also is active member of the Young Presidents Organization and was a 2012 recipient of Leaders Under 40 in the Quad Cities.

Chris Lam - Chief Financial Officer

Chris Lam joined Total Solutions as Chief Financial Officer in January 2019.  In this position, Chris provides strategic management of the accounting and finance functions for Total Solutions.  Prior to joining Total Solutions, Chris was Controller, Financial Reporting at HNI Corporation, a leading global office furniture manufacturer and the leading manufacturer and marketer of hearth products, and Senior Manager, Real Estate Accounting at Hyatt Hotels Corporation, a global hospitality company with widely recognized, industry leading brands.  Before beginning his career in private industry, Chris received his Certified Public Accounting (CPA) designation in 2008 and worked in the audit and assurance practice at BDO USA, LLP, a top 10 accounting firm in the United States.

 

Chris has experience with financial reporting, public filings, consolidations, valuations, acquisitions, internal controls, policies and procedures, analyzing and reporting business performance metrics, implementing process improvement, and audits of publicly and privately held companies.  Chris was featured as the Up-And-Coming Accounting Professional in the Fall 2015 publication of INSIGHT, the quarterly magazine of the Illinois CPA Society.

 

Chris graduated from Hope College in Holland, MI with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting.  He resides in Bettendorf, IA with his wife Lindsay and their son Cooper.

Nora Coyne-Logan – Executive Assistant

Nora began her role as Executive Assistant to Aaron Tennant in April of 2014 and transitioned over to Total Solutions upon it’s opening in 2015. Prior to her role with Mr. Tennant, Nora worked for the local nonprofit, Living Lands & Waters (LL&W), as a Program and Events Coordinator and Crew Member. After four years of living and working on the river, Nora decided to find some solid ground and landed her current role as an Executive Assistant. She graduated from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies with an Emphasis in Organizational and Corporate Communication. Nora has volunteered for the Quad City Chamber of Commerce Membership Campaign as a Team Lead, has been active in the Skip-A-Long Child Services Golf Committee, Unity Point Health Cup Committee and the Full Service Community Schools Taskforce Committee at Earl Hanson Elementary School in Rock Island, IL. Nora coordinates the annual Total Solution’s Suite at the John Deere Classic, helping to raise money for the JDC foundation. Nora has ten years of professional experience in organizational communication, for both non-profit and profit organizations throughout the Quad Cities Area and is also a Yoga Instructor teaching weekly at few different local studios and community venues. Nora is a Quad Cities native and resides in Davenport, IA.

Melissa Pepper - President

As Total Solutions’ President, Melissa leads the overall strategy and direction of Total Solutions. She identifies and pursues new clients for the IT, accounting, PEO, and human resources business line while leading the business line leaders to deliver additional value and service to current customers.

 

Prior to joining the Total Solutions, Melissa was Director of Marketing & Client Relations at the law firm Lane & Waterman, where she built and implemented their first marketing strategy and executed numerous client relations initiatives.

 

Melissa is the founder of Lead(h)er, the nonprofit mentorship organization that has matched over 250 women in the workforce with mentors since 2016. She also mentors start-up founders through the University of Iowa Entrepreneurial Center, serves on the Q2030 Steering and Make It Here committees, the Genesis Foundation Board of Directors, the American Marketing Association’s Iowa Board of Directors, IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union’s Supervisory Committee, and the Genesis Health System’s Quality and Safety Committee.

 

Melissa graduated summa cum laude from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois and is a recent graduate of University of Iowa’s Tippie MBA program. She lives in Davenport with her husband Dan and sons Grayson (4) and Brooks (3 months).

Sarah Kramer – Human Resources Director

Sarah joined the Total Solutions team in 2015. She has over 10 years of Human Resources experience. Sarah has extensive Human Resources Generalist experience working at both large and small companies in a variety of industries including manufacturing, transportation, consulting, medical and retail. Sarah has extensive hands-on experience in leading HR initiatives including policy design, employee handbook creation, performance management, recruitment and selection, training and development, benefits administration and employee relations.

 

Sarah has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resource Management from Northern Illinois University, is certified as a Profession in Human Resources (PHR) and has created the goal of obtaining her SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). Sarah is also a member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM). Sarah will be attending the 2018 National SHRM Conference in Chicago, IL.

Mark Hemphill - Controller

Mark Hemphill joined Total Solutions in January, 2016.  In his role as Controller, Mark oversees all accounting and financial reporting engagements for our clients.  Prior to joining Total Solutions, Mark was Director – Revenue Accounting of CRST International, one of the nation’s leading transportation providers.  Previous to CRST, Mark was Corporate Controller of Barjan LLC, a large national wholesaler.  Mark began his accounting career with Arthur Andersen & Co, the world’s largest public accounting firm at the time.

 

In addition to traditional accounting, Mark is experienced in mergers and acquisitions, budgeting and forecasting, working capital management, lender/investor presentations and relationships, development and implementation of KPI’s and process improvement.

 

Mark is a trustee and secretary of the Pope Creek/Candor Cemetery Association, a member and former ruling elder of College Avenue Presbyterian Church, and a former classroom volunteer with Junior Achievement.

 

A graduate of Augustana College, Mark is a native of Aledo, Illinois and now resides in Delmar, Iowa with his wife Kim.  Mark & Kim enjoy spending free time relaxing with family and friends, especially their grandsons.
